We had such a fun time at our Freezer 5K and Fun Run this morning! A huge thank you to the Senior Prom Band for making the day special and to all the families and friends who came out to support UFS. Yesterday at Meeting for Worship, we read the book ‘Somewhere Today: A Book of Peace.’ We talked about peaceful hands and students shared their thoughts about promoting peace as they placed a hand on the peace sign.

She spoke to the middle school students about the history of Asian immigration to the US. Her presentation included information about the Chinese Exclusion Act and other historical laws, restrictions of property ownership, education, and employment. Rose is President of AREAA of Greater Philadelphia Chapter.

Did you know that there is more bacteria in your mouth than people alive on Earth? 🦠🌎 Our Fox Class does!

Last week, our Fox Class continued their study of the human body with guest speaker and classroom parent, Alyssa! Our friends learned about the five different types of microbes, or microorganisms, and the role they play in keeping us healthy or making us sick. The Fox friends participated in a hands on experiment with five slices of bread. Each slice of bread was exposed to a different level of microbes in the classroom: everyone's unwashed hands, a variety of classroom surfaces, someone's well washed hands, someone's half washed hands, and Alyssa's well washed, gloved hands. Each slice of bread was put in a Ziploc bag, and our friends will observe the bread each day to see what might start to grow. This was an amazing extension of learning. Thank you, Alyssa! 🦠

🩺🫀Our ongoing project-based study of the human body has been exciting and engaging! Yesterday, the Penn class (1st and 2nd grade) welcomed a special guest who shared insights about heart health and the role of a Cardiac Tech at Doylestown Hospital. Our guest brought interactive models, including a heart and pacemakers, and students got hands-on experience listening to heartbeats and measuring oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter. 🫀🩺

🦷 🪥 Today, our Mott, Rustin, and Penn (Preschool-2nd grade) classes had a special visit from Dr. Eastham who shared with the group all about pediatric dentistry! We learned about how to care for our teeth, how germs can make holes in our teeth called cavities, and how/why baby teeth fall out. We even learned that our teeth each get their own letter in our mouth! She helped us practice brushing and flossing. This special visit helped our friends learn more about the human body, which is our school-wide project based study this year! Thank you Dr. Eastham! 🪥🦷

🌿🌱 This afternoon, our Fox (3/4) friends welcomed guest speaker, herbalist, seed producer, and our Fox class teacher Kasey's grandma, Denise, to their classroom! After participating in a "sniff and guess" activity with a variety of herbs, they learned that many of the herbs their families use in cooking also have medicinal properties! Each student selected herbs to take home to share with their families and some seeds to start their own herbal garden. This was a great lesson for their Human Body Study.
