After School Program
Mondays - All Star Sports
Stretch-n-Grow's All Star Sports on Mondays is the perfect opportunity for friends to participate in activities designed to improve basic athletic abilities such as agility and endurance. Led by Amy Wall, a former college athlete and skilled coach, the program focuses on essential sports skills like running, soccer, hockey, football, basketball, and baseball. Participants will enjoy a variety of games, activities, and obstacle courses. Additionally, students in grades 5th through 8th who join the All Star Sports classes will become junior coaches, developing important leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills while assisting younger players.
Tuesdays - Meet the Artist
In this inspiring and engaging after school enrichment program, taught by Beth Krumholz, students will make connections between some of the great artists of our time. We will learn about these artists and design small mixed-media booklets composed of our discoveries and inspired by their different styles of working. Examples of artists we will look at: Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Joseph Cornell, Piet Mondrian, Sonia Delauney, and Jacob Lawrence.
Wednesdays - Art Studio
The Wednesday after school art program will be full of creativity and will be led by Ali Aiken. Students will be offered a brief demonstration, followed by a studio style period. Support and advice will be offered as needed. During this meeting time, student innovation will take the lead.
Thursdays - Cooking
Sarah Wireman is a talented chef and culinary aficionado. Sarah is looking forward to getting creative in the UFS kitchen with our friends. Our young chefs will be learning some basic techniques of cooking, how to read recipes, and how to cook up some delicious meals and sweet treats. We will be making one recipe per class, all hands-on and from scratch using natural and fresh ingredients
Fridays - STEM and the Outdoors
Our outdoor STEM after-school program will be led by our Science teacher and Outdoor Educator, Cathy Laboski. Enrichment activities will take place in the garden area where we will explore various topics like animal habitats, plants/trees, weather, gravity, and chemical reactions. We will begin with a snack and introduction to the day's subject followed by hands-on activities to deepen students’ understanding of how science is connected to the real world. Students will have time for free play during each session. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for outdoor play (e.g., coat, hat, gloves, etc.).
