From Tito Puente to Ringo Starr, learn to play at the beat of your own drum. Campers will create their own percussion instruments and take several walking field trips to explore the hidden music all around them. This camp will also feature a performance by guest African Drummers.
The Green Gourmet

Bring out your inner Julia, Emeril or Betty Crocker as we spend a week in the kitchen learning to prepare different meals and desserts. Each day campers will explore a different piece of the food pyramid as they learn to bake their own bread, make omelets and prepare many other delicious dishes. Many of these meals will be inspired by our UFS Garden. Each day will conclude with a feast to share with parents.
Mixed Media Laboratory

Join Bucks County mixed media artist, Stacie Speer Scott, for a week of exploration in a wide range of mediums. Using projects based on the masterworks of Rauschenberg, Cornell, Nevelson and others, the campers will experiment with techniques such as collage, assemblage, encaustic painting, printmaking, painting and drawing.

Found and Fabulous

Through the wonders of assemblage and collage; a rusted car part and an old x ray became the body and “guts” of the armadillo pictured above. Simple objects can springboard the imagination, and students can create verbal stories about their creations. The participants will have an opportunity to create assemblages inside of boxes as well as on 2–d surfaces. The campers will work with gluing, stitching, hammering and wiring as well as painting, drawing and design.
Wild for Nature
Ages 7-11

Spend summer the way it was meant to be celebrated, outside! Explore the world at Green Lane Nature Center. Campers will explore all facets of the natural world including navigating like Lewis and Clark, catching and identifying insects, learning about insect locomotion and a tree identification session with park ranger Mark Shope. Campers will also spend time playing in the stream and learning how to identify all the creatures that are hiding in the muck. Campers need to find their own transportation to and from Green Lane Nature Center.
A Summer of Revolution

Campers will begin the day at the David Library of the American Revolution located in Washington Crossing, PA, where they will analyze the George Washington Collection, use the library for further research, visit prominent historical sites, and work on creating a history book and an original constitution of their week-long historical experience. Camp is open to all students in 5th-through 8th grade. Campers are expected to bring their own lunches and provide their own transportation to and from DLAR.
Ooey, Gooey, Sticky, Slimy Camp

Campers will have their senses challenged and be amazed as they learn about science through play and experimentation. They will make bubbles that will be large enough to stand inside, learn about the properties of Non-Newtonian Fluids by making Gak, Slime and Ooblek. They will make things explode and see how they change form. Bring your camper’s bathing suits because we will be creating an ooey, gooey slip and slide.
Champion Child Soccer Clinic

Big Champs Soccer provides children with a fun-filled age appropriate program that teaches basic fundamentals of soccer and game play. Children enrolled in our Big Champs Soccer Clinic will learn the importance of proper warm-ups, stretches, and exercises while gaining an understanding of basic soccer skills. Each player will be taught valuable soccer skills such as making contact with the ball, ball control, dribbling, passing, and shooting.
Critter Camp
Ages 4-7

If you love critters, you will love this camp. Campers will be finding creepy crawlers under rocks, in the local creek and in the garden. Join Colleen and help identify and learn about where these critters live. Campers will look at the differences between bugs and insects and will be taking walking trips around town to identify local habitats where critters live.
The Rainforest: La Selva Tropical
Ages 4-9

Campers will become acquainted with the Spanish language while exploring all the unusual animals and other things that live in the rainforest. Through fun activities, like games, music and crafts, campers will learn to speak Spanish.
All Sports Conditioning

Improve your speed, strength, agility and endurance while working on specific skills during this camp. You will get the opportunity to swim, play ultimate Frisbee, run and hike in the beautiful setting of Nockamixon State Park. Campers need to find their own transportation to and from Nockamixon State Park.
Instructors’ Biographies:
Colleen Albanese, United Friends School Pre-School teacher. Mott 3 & 4 year olds has been at UFS since 1983. Colleen loves and respects each and every child that she meets. The ability to understand and know what a child needs comes naturally to her.
Dearing Blankmann, United Friends School Pre-K teacher and track coach will be leading this camp. She is an avid chef and an enthusiastic gardener.
Brian Bohmueller, United Friends School classroom aide, has taught student nature programs and led boat and bike trips for the Wildlife Conservancy in Emmaus
Gloria Galvez, United Friends School Spanish teacher. Gloria has organized and participated in Spanish play groups and summer programs in Doylestown. She is always interested in applying new methods or techniques to the classroom.
Louis Herbst, United Friends School social studies teacher since 2005. He has been a guest lecturer at Arcadia University in international peace and conflict resolution
Stacie Speer Scott, former United Friends School Art teacher, has thirty years experience working with the visual and performing arts in educational, community based and therapeutic settings. Scott is a professional artist working with collage, painting and mixed media techniques.
Margaret Smith, United Friends School Music Teacher. Margaret has been at UFS since 2007. She teaches all band and orchestra instruments, music history, theory and voice.
Patrick Spero, staff historian at the DLAR Library, recently presented a paper (titled, “The Frontier State: The Imperial Crisis on the Pennsylvania Frontier and the Creation of the Revolutionary Government, 1763-1776”) at an international conference hosted by the University of Dundee in Scotland.
