Our preschool is an integral part of United Friends and is guided by the same testimonies that guide the K-8 program. The preschool program provides a nurturing environment that encourages children to view themselves as competent independent learners. We offer a developmentally appropriate program focusing on the growth of the whole child: physically, socially, emotional, cognitively, and spiritually. We understand each child is a unique person with an individual pattern of growth and development, as well as individual personality, learning style, and family background.
The objectives of the programs include:
- To nurture the inner light in each child by fostering a community in which the spiritual aspect of daily activities is an integral part of the curriculum.
- To foster self-worth and respect for others.
- To provide the child with models for non-violent conflict resolution.
- To provide the child with a well-rounded experience in a loving atmosphere.
- To foster exploration, self-discipline, creativity and a desire to learn.
- To offer active learning experiences that will develop the child's abilities and interests at their own pace and in consideration of their strengths and weaknesses.
- To help the child in developing an awareness and concern for the needs of others, a sense of community, and a spirit of sharing.
- To collaborate with parents in guiding the development of their child.
The Preschool program offers 2 separate programs for 3 and 4 year olds
- The 3's program is Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm.
- The 4's program is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 1 or 3 pm. Children stay for lunch (brought from home) in all of these classes. After school care is available to those children in the 4's 8:30-3:00 program.
